A beautiful day

What a beautiful day it has been today! Blue skies, warm sun on my arms, and bees and butterflies, enjoying the last of the lavender and michelmas daisies. One thing that I always look forward to this time of year, is the sun low enough in the sky to shine through the crystals that are hanging at my window and decorate the room with little dancing rainbow lights.
I have collected old chandelier crystals for many years. All of them were bought from car boot sales for next to nothing. They are strung up on fishing line at two windows and I've still an old cigar box full that have yet to be added.

As winter approaches, there is even more of a show. Today, just a few rainbows.

If you gently move them, they dance around the room. Many crystals have been chipped over the years by little hands wanting to see the 'fairy rainbows'. But that doesn't matter, as they are still beautiful.

  4. Karen - what a lovely idea those crystals are and what a lift they must give you when the sun shines in. I love your new heading.

  6. Wonderful, truly special. I've a few here and there but think a collection is better. I fell in love with crystals when I was very little and saw 'Pollyanna' at the cinema, with Hayley Mills in it. I recently got the dvd of it and I'm saving it for a rainy afternoon. In case you're wondering what the old bat is on about! There's a scene in the film where Pollyanna is given a crystal by an elderly, bedridden lady she was scared of.

  7. Lizzie- Ah, I know exactly what you are talking about! Yes, I too have seen Pollyanna with Hayley Mills. I think that was what sparked my interest in collecting them. :)

  10. I also collect crystals, a la Pollyanna (although mine are much smaller than yours). They are hanging in my studio window and I enjoy the afternoon rainbows they provide.

  12. I have a dear friend who inspired me to collect crystals (she has a window filled with them, and my kids call her house the "fun house" :)
I only have a couple, they are so pricey in gift shops here, you are so clever to buy them at boot sales!

(but I'm not sure what a car boot sale is? We have garage sales here, do folks sell items out of their cars?
This sounds fun! a real moving fairy market!
