Bits,pieces and snuffles and sneezes

As I sit here at my desk writing this post, this is what I can see out of the window in front of me......

Its a cloudy, misty kind of day today. I can hear the jackdaws upon the chimmney pot, rooks over in the big trees and other birds chirping their merry spring songs. I can hear the engine drone of a lawn mower as a neighbour tidys their lawn ready for the weekend and I can smell the sweet scent of cut grass drifting on the breeze.
Its been a week of bits and pieces and snuffles and sneezes. I've not been able to settle on things, since picking up a cold at the beginning of the week.
I began with sketching an idea for Illustration Friday, but didn't develop it into the finished piece, so never submitted it.

'Poise'

Then I decided to sketch some of the bones from the owl pellets.....

I didn't attempt to get stuck into the painting I have on the go at the moment,as I just knew when your not feeling your best, its not a good idea ( for me anyway :) )
I have lots more work to do on this painting which is on a 30x30 cms canvas.

I've been in the greenhouse enjoying the warmth through the glass and sowing more seeds. And,weeding in the garden where I keep coming across little treasures like this...

Another skeleton! This time skeleton of a holly leaf.
I did find another very special treasure, but that one will have to wait a while for a future post!?!?
The sun is beginning to break through the clouds now, and my cold feels much better today :) I think its time to go and put the kettle on.

  1. The view out of your window is wonderful - I can see why you're inspired to create so many beautiful things! It reminded me a bit of scenes from Susan Hill's "The Magic Apple Tree" book - one of my all time favourite books for escaping into!!

    Have a lovely (cold-free!) weekend!

  3. Hi Karen,

The skeleton of the holly leaf is like a lovely, little faery wing. You've inspired me to go outside and find my own treasures. Hope you feel better soon.

  5. Hope you're soon back on form. The sun burnt through the mist at noon here - just in time for my 'gardening workout' - just one more veg-bed left to tidy.

    Love the fragile leaf skeleton.

  11. A lovely view from your window - it's been cold and grey here today but still there is all the fresh green of new leaves and it doesn't seem to deter the birds. Glad your cold is getting better.

  12. I am happy you are feeling a bit better. Colds in Springtime are so discouraging. I love Poise... and look forward to seeing it finished. I've always wanted a long, long neck like that one!

  13. I am glad you are feeling better, may you feel refreshed and energetic!
Your scetches are lovely! Sometimes I wish I could be artistic with drawing and painting.... but it does not seem to be my medium.
Oh, a greenhouse! I would love to have one. They are so wonderful this time of year, as things are just starting to warm a little. They are like a little oasis.

  15. I lOVE the swan in your sketchbook! I know what you mean about not working on a painting when you're feeling under the weather, not only do I ruin things but I don't enjoy it so it wastes valuable time! Your home looks so beautiful, what a lovely place to live.x
