A Post For A Snowy Day

“Meanwhile,’ said Mr Tumnus, ‘it is winter in Narnia, and has been for ever so long, and we shall both catch cold if we stand here talking in the snow. Daughter of Eve from the far land of Spare Oom where eternal summer reigns around the bright city of War Drobe, how would it be if you came and had tea with me?” .... CS Lewis

..........I'd be delighted thank you! Would anyone else care to join me for a cup of summertime?
That was delicious!  but now it's time to step back outside and back into Narnia......
                                                                       ~*~
Yes, Winter finally arrived on Friday we awoke to a beautiful decorated landscape.

Creatures appeared in the garden. A hare with rose hip eyes.
And a sleepy fox.
And others that wanted to come out to play..

Have you ever stood barefoot in the snow?  I hadn't ever tried it, so thought it was about time that I did. :-)

After some fun time spent with other inhabitants of Narnia, I returned home and warmed up with the help of mulled wine and hot chocolate. That evening, Mr Tumnus was still on my mind so I decided to draw him in my sketchbook.

“Narnia! It's all in the wardrobe just like I told you!”

  1. Beautiful. I LOVE the sleepy fox! And how WAS being in the snow barefoot? I was just commenting on a blog that had two illustrations of young girls barefoot in the snow, how funny.

  3. That is a great picture Karen, and I love the bare foot standing. You are brave; I rolled in the snow after a sauna only once (married to a Finn it was expected). Bracing!

    1. Well you are braver than me Charlotte! I'm not sure I could roll in the snow? Hmmmmm.... might have to add it to my list now though, for when I get to visit Finland or Sweden one of these days. :)

    1. Thanks Veronica :) They are lovely books. I'm thinking of re-reading them, as I haven't a book by my bedside at the moment.

    1. Yes, I was wrapped up well when I made the sculptures. Standing in the snow felt marvelous, you must give it a go. Just make sure you put thick warm socks on afterwards. :)x

  6. Lovely blog post Karen, I love the snow animals. especially the fox, even though one took our two remaining hens last week - strange this morning Foxy Loxy was running down our road calling for his mate his coat a mass vibrant reds, oranges and browns.

    1. Shame about your hens Maura. Mr foxy must have been hungry. We only had hens taken by him, when some of ours decided to go wild and wouldn't come into the hen house. Instead they decided they preferred to roost in the trees at night. So of course in the lovely light mornings of summer they would come down early and be at risk.
You must give the feet in snow a try. ;)

  14. Lovely snow sculptures, my snow dog apparently didn't look like one...will have to try better!

Love the theme too, Narnia is a lovely escapism, particularly for me at this time as it was my moms favourite, I recommend reading them all- in order if you can (though I always skip to Lion, Witch&Wardrobe) I am tempted to dig out the Mr Tumnus cake receipe we have somewhere!

Also wanted to to say I love the print I had of yours for Christmas (I did choose it- a lady walking through the woods with animals) your drawings are fab...if only I could draw. It's on my list of things to acheive! I have yet to frame and hang it as I am moving house (hopefully...) so many things have been put away, can't wait to get all set up though, there will be many angel/fantasy/animal images and ornaments to put out.

  16. DELIGHTFUL images - and the feet in the snow too! I've not tried that, though I have walked barefoot through the icy waters of a stream, it was ages before I could feel my feet again.
