Eight Years Old and Song to the Sun's return

Today this blog is eight years old! Or should I say two? It was created on this day, the 29th February,  which of course only comes around every four years.
Back in 2008 I began it as a sort of visual diary really, just to record my creativity, places I visited and other bits and pieces along the way. I have never really been any good at keeping a diary, but the ability to upload pictures appealed to me and the journey began. I named it Moonlight and Hares because they were just two things that I loved and included in my paintings regularly. Back then my two hobbits were children and now they are both young adults. Time is so very precious isn't it. Time has changed the way we interact online. Many blogs that I used to read no longer exist and Facebook and Instagram have replaced some. But there is something strange and therapeutic and satisfying about keeping a blog. It is still my preferred social media, even if I don't post that often.
To celebrate the eight years I thought it would be nice to do a giveaway.

I've recently completed this painting. 'Song to the Sun's return' inspired by my January trip to Lapland.
I wanted to do this painting a little differently so the shape and some of the symbols are inspired by Sรกmi shaman drums. I have painted the sun symbol with real shell gold and to try and get the same effect, hand highlighted the prints in my shop with gold paint.

If you would like the chance of winning a copy of this print, just follow and comment below. I will choose one winner next week sometime and announce it the next time I put up a blog post. Only comments published on this blog will be counted, as this give-away is to celebrate the blogs Birthday.
Good luck and thank you for reading! :-)

  8. Happy Birthday to your blog! As another lover of all things moonlit and hare themed, this has been a happy accidental discovery I made relatively recently, but the sense of peace and of being grounded in yourself that you convey gives me hope that one day I will achieve the same. Blessings.

  32. I am glad you still favour blogging, it is difficult to keep it up - mine languishes often - but it is such a lovely way to express ourselves, connect with other bloggers and record artwork and magic moments - long may it continue. Your Iclandic trip has certainly given your paintings a new direction, I like the gold. Betty

  42. Happy Birthday, Moonlight and Hares Blog! I have been following you since about September of 2008 when I started my own blog! I had to be away from mine and my art for awhile but am posting fairly regularly now and enjoying it again. I enjoy some of the new blogs that are businesses in and of themselves but I like the "old" fashioned ones better. My reason for blogging is much like yours. I really enjoy visiting to see what you have been up to! Received my postcards and I love them! Happy soon to be Spring!

  49. Happy Blog birthday, Karen. I haven't been following since the very beginning, but it has been quite a few years now, and your blog is one of a very small number that are my 'essential' reading, the ones I go to when I need to be inspired, or to believe there is still magic in the world. Sometimes I used to read your blog and just leave it open to listen to the beautiful music you had chosen. One day, I will get up early enough (or perhaps it's stay up late enough!) to manage to snaffle one of your hare hangers...I've been eyeing them off for years but they are always gone by the time I get to your Etsy shop...sigh, the joys of living in a different time zone! May there be many more years of magic!

  50. Wow what an incredibly magical and special picture! :D -I tried to comment a few days ago but don't think it appeared, but sorry for the repeat if it did! Congratulations on 8 years! I just want to say that your artwork inspires me so much - as an aspiring artist myself and in the way the loving, magical essence of your pictures really shines through; whenever I look at your artwork and read your blog posts I am reminded me of the simple things I really value in life and that make me happy! I am 18 now but discovered your blog when I was 13 and love it. Thank you for this fab opportunity to win the picture, and may you continue finding success, joy, magic and light in life, and sharing your wonderful creativity! x Ellie

I sat rented my blog eight years ago too, not knowing quite why. I choose a name for much the same reasons. It has been an interesting journey, here's to the next chapter x

  55. I love your blog and paintings. I ordered a print of "The Rosehip Spell" for my husband, who has become attached to foxes. The painting reminds us of us. I live in Michigan, where there's a lot of snow--but it vanished this week, and now the blackbirds are singing in the marsh that was iced over until a few days ago.
