Wintry Paintings

I had almost forgotten why I never make new year resolutions until I turned my calendar over the other morning. January has gone. Winter put away it's coldest cloak. The white one that tinkles with shards of icicles along the hem. The one that is embroidered with a million snowflakes, each one unique, as a moment. It's February already and I have only blogged twice! I didn't really make any official resolutions but I kind of promised  quietly to myself  that I would blog more. Hmm.. I haven't. You see...it's no good I can't keep resolutions.

If you follow my facebook page or have visited my shop lately you will probably have seen my latest paintings. If you haven't then here they are...

'One Day They Will Love You Too Sang The Robin'

                                                                        Midwinter Song
                                                          Whispers to the Old Moon

*~*~*
January seemed to be the month for finishing things off that had been started and restocking my shop after the Christmas busy-ness.  Fresh batches of cards.

Some have reached the shop others have yet to fly. Paintings are all available as prints.

The other day I went to look for treasures down by the stream.
I found 'Old Mans Beard' or some might know it as 'Travellers Joy'. I like both names. (Officially known as  clematis vitalba) It is one of my favourite hedgerow plants. And maybe I shouldn't tell you this but... as naughty children sometimes we used to light the dried wood and smoke it. :~/ (now I don't recommend that you try this, as I'm not sure what research has been done on effects!?)
Catkins. It looks as if it will be a good year for hazelnuts. :)
Then I noticed someone trying to get my attention. What a beautiful treasure! (Sadly not mine) I wonder what his name is?
Snowdrops stretching up towards the light.
And yesterday I saw two celandine nodding their yellow faces in the breeze.
More tales from February soon.  x

P.S:  Welcome to any new followers! :-)

    1. Isn't he lovely. :) I think he would have liked his nose stroked, but there was stream in between us.

  4. Beautiful! And the second picture of the 'old man's beard' reminds me so much of emu feathers, though I've never seen a snow white emu (that would be a sight to stop me in my tracks)!

    1. It is beautiful isn't it and yes feathery too. So pretty climbing in the hedgerows and trees. The dangly lamb tail one's are the catkins, later to be hazelnuts. :)

  5. Or perhaps they're the catkins?! We don't have either here!

  6. I love the new pieces, especially the first with the robin and fox . . . absolutely gorgeous. I'm always so jealous when I see pics of snowdrops, I miss them now that I don't live in the UK. As for new year resolutions, I say forget them. Things will be what they will be.

    1. Thanks Kathryn. Snowdrops are special aren't they. It's that first peep of Spring. I believe they symbolise 'hope' in flower lore. It seems very fitting.
And yes, I have forgotten about the resolutions now. ;)

  9. I love the painting of the fox and the robin. There are little signs of Spring around now aren't there? I've noticed a lot of hazel catkins but all still tightly closed, I have plenty of snowdrops flowering though.

  11. beautiful! love the new work, but horrified that the horse is fenced by BARBED WIRE!! anyone that has horses or has treated horses injured by barbed wire knows why that terrifies me.... I hope he doesn't hurt himself on it :( the pic of catkins is really neat! as always thanks for sharing!

    1. Hi Jenna. I also hate barbed wire for use with any animals. The horse was fine though it was only a small patch in front of a drop into a stream. Obviously put there to stop him slipping into the water. :)

  12. Hi there,
Gosh I do love your wintry paintings.
Hehehe... I used to set fire to dried stems and smoke them too. I must have been about 7!

Your work is enchanting and Whispers to the Old Moon drew me right out of my chair into that magical wind!
An exiting walk you had as well ~ to meet a nameless Gypsy and nodding celendine.
    Smiling softly, I am.
