Winter On it's Way

As I sit writing this I can see through my window the wind has got up. The last week has been so still and grey, but today the light has changed. The first glimpse of winter in the pale pink tinged afternoon.

Light and shadows on the wall look like other worlds and landscapes. Maybe I will paint pictures inspired by these. More to add to my long list. ;)

I've been busy with wooden hangers. I have 16 more to paint and then I am having a break from them.  There is always a balance that needs to be met with me in regards to  painting and crafts. If I sway to one too much, then I have a desperate urge to do the other. Recently It's been mostly craft, so it's time to get the balance back.

Above, owls waiting their turn. There are 11 to paint, barn, snowy and tawny. Below some woodland fairies which have just been listed in my Etsy shop.

This time last year there was snow on the ground. This year I have two pink roses in bloom.
The furry two know winter is on it's way though I'm sure....

Hmm...sister hasn't quite mastered the art of cosiness though...

  1. Cool shadow photos... and I love the plastic tarp cat bed, who knew that was comfortable! Been cold and snowy here, then warm and springy.... weird. Today cold, tomorrow warm, unsettling. Love the tribe of owls.

  3. Gosh, the little dark haired fairy looks just like my daughter: may have just found part of her christmas present! My cats are telling me Winter's on the way too: certainly the ground is too cold for their paws!

  6. So sweet. We have a cat that likes sitting in the kindling basket! His other favourite place is on the spiky doormat!
I love your photographs of the shadows and light reflecting on the wall...amazing.
Your fairies and owls are wonderful.
Wonder if it will snow soon....there are lots of berries on the trees, that is supposed to mean a cold winter, but so far it has been mild here hasn't it.

  9. Sigh! Karen, being on the 'other side' of the planet is such a disadvantage...every time I get to read your latest post, your beautiful hangers are already sold! Those faeries are gorgeous, and I know two little girls who would adore them. I don't suppose there's any chance of a custom order (or even a trade) before Christmas!? Wishing you all the best for a wonderful winter season!

  10. I know what you mean when ideas back up. I sometimes find they have a shelf life and if not used become tainted with time. P.S. I love your owls.

  15. The photos with the light and shadows are beautiful. Can't wait to see what you do with those as your inspiration. Your work is delightful.I always enjoy seeing what you turn out.

Our cats will sometimes find the strangest places to get comfy. The most unusual snoozing place I've seen around here, though, was the basket of pine cones that Bo, our little Shih Tzu, curled up in one afternoon last year.

The coming of Winter: today we have temperatures in the high 60's, but by Tuesday things will drop into the low 40's and into the 20's at night with some snow possible on Tuesday. Here in North Alabama, snow is not frequent. To have it predicted this early is quite rare.

  17. I absolutely love you green fairies, why do so many people paint pink fairies when we all know they are green?

    A Mermaid in The Attic...
So sorry Christina, firstly for taking ages replying to this comment and secondly I don't do custom orders. I will be making some more fairies in the spring maybe? I love the idea of trade swaps, but sadly they don't pay the bills, so I recline from them. x
